Childcare career advice

PEOPLE keen to find out about the rewards of a career in childcare can learn all about it at an information day in Gateshead next month. An open day takes place on Wednesday, April 2, from 10am until 2pm in the Swallow Hotel, to help promote childcare as a career. Staff from Gateshead College, Gateshead Connections, JobCentre Plus and Gateshead Early Years' Partnership, will be on hand to offer career guidance and benefits information. EASTER EVENTS: A coffee morning with an Easter theme takes place in Kyo Laws Methodist Church, near Stanley, on Saturday, March 29, 10am to 11.30am. Christ Church United Reformed Church, in Church Bank, also in Stanley, holds an Easter table top sale and a pie and peas lunch on Saturday, April 12, 11am to 2pm. Admission for vendors is from 10am. RESIDENTS MEETING: Dipton Residents Association holds its annual meeting in the village community centre, on Wednesday, April 16, at 7.15pm.

SPRING CONCERT: Young Sinfonia gives its spring concert in Brunswick Methodist Church, next to Fenwick's, in Newcastle city centre, on Saturday, March 29, at 1.10pm. Tickets, priced £5, are available from the Sage Gateshead box office, on 0191-443 4555.

FREE FOLK: Students from the Folkworks and University of Newcastle folk and traditional music degree course will show off their talents in a free concert. The Keeping it Reel concert takes place in Newcastle Playhouse foyer, on Saturday, from noon to 5pm.

FIRE MEETING: The Tyne and Wear Civil Defence Authority's emergency planning committee meeting will take place in Pennine House, Washington, on April 7, at 10am.

MUSIC MEDLEY: Felling Stage Society, in Gateshead, will be staging The Time of Your Life, An Evening of Music and Laughter with Bea Atkinson. She will be singing with guests Michael Geddes, Clare Halliday and Michael Green at The Caedmon Hall in Gateshead on Friday and Saturday, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 and £5 for concessions. EASTER FAIR: An RSPCA Easter fair will be held in Durham Town Hall on Saturday, April 5, from 1pm to 4pm. There will be stalls, tombola and refreshments.
