PEOPLE who tirelessly do their bit for their community have been praised at Redcar and Cleveland Community Achievement Awards.

Thirteen individuals and groups received the annual awards from Mayor Eric Jackson, at Eston Town Hall.

The winners were:

Pearl and Lynne Appleby, who run Hog Haven for Hedgehogs, which has saved 842 hedgehogs since 1989.

Anne Breeze, of Lingdale, a care assistant for 17 years who has devoted her life to helping the elderly and ensuring they have a social life.

Conniston and Rydale Avenue Residents' Group, Grangetown, for their work improving the Grangetown environment.

Christine Cowle and Katie Mawson, of New Marske, for their work in the Girls' Brigade.

Wayne Davies, of Liverton Mines. Wayne, 16, is secretary of his village's community group and secured funding to create a football pitch for the village.

Diamond Street Residents, Saltburn, for improving the environment.

Godfrey Evans, Lingdale, for his outstanding contribution as a parish warden for Skelton and Brotton.

Pearl Hall, South Bank, who has campaigned against fireworks and has worked all her life for the community of South Bank.

Arthur and Joan Marsden and Evelyn Smith, Redcar, for more than 35 years' service to Redcar East Community Association.

Margaret Thurston, Dorothy Wells and Elizabeth Gibbon, Readcar's Lakes Estate fundraisers who ensured the estate's children's Jubilee party went ahead despite an earlier cancellation.

Julie Smuk, Brotton, for her work with Brotton children.

Philip Thomson, Saltburn, for his dedicated community work.

Grave Wynn, Guisborough, now 82. Grave is the former residential warden for bungalows and flats in De Brus Way, but still carries on unpaid work helping the elderly.
