GRANTS worth more than £150,000 have been approved by councillors in Hartlepool to support community groups and voluntary organisations in the town.
Hartlepool Borough Council has agreed ten awards from its Community Pool, which gives financial assistance to groups and organisations providing services to people in the town.
Chris Hart, voluntary sector liaison officer, said: "Community Pool funding is generally given to help cover organisations' core costs.
"This grant aid can be used to match other funding obtained from a range of external sources, including the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB), the Community Fund or Europe."
Councillor John Lauderdale, chairman of the grants committee, said: "The council recognises the important role played in the town by the local voluntary and community sectors."
