AN elderly woman's life-savings of more than £900 were stolen from her home as she slept.
The 84-year-old, of Redcar, east Cleveland, needed the money to pay for the care of her husband, who is in a home.
Burglars broke in through an upstairs window as she slept downstairs some time between 7.30pm and 10pm on Saturday.
Police said the woman was upset and feeling vulnerable after the burglary.
PC John Moore, of Redcar police, said: "Luckily, in this case the woman was not hurt, but she's very distressed. Her life savings have been stolen."
