THIS year's North Yorkshire Youth Games will be held in Scarborough, it was announced yesterday.

The event is the country's biggest youth sport event and will involve about 1,200 youngsters.

On May 18 they will compete in 11 sports, including athletics, basketball, rugby union, rugby league, football, orienteering, netball, hockey, tennis and table tennis.

Scarborough Borough Council's community sports officer, Matt Hewison, said the action would take place at a number of venues.

He said: "Scarborough Sports Centre, Scarborough College, Pindar Leisure Centre and the Graham Table Tennis Centre will all be involved."

The games will start at 10.30am at each venue with the closing ceremony and awards presentation at Scarborough College at 3.30pm.
