Striker Jim Corbett has revealed he is enjoying a new lease of life at Darlington since joining the club on loan.

The Blackburn Rovers forward has struggled to make an impact at Ewood Park, five years after joining the club in a £500,000 deal from Gillingham

And the 22-year-old, who last week saw his one-month loan deal at Feethams extended until the end of the season, is relishing regular first-team football after spending almost half a decade in the shadow of Rovers' more-illustrious stars.

"It's just nice to be playing League football on a Saturday again," said Corbett.

"I was at Gillingham and I went to Blackburn where I haven't really played for five years.

"It's been difficult for me and all the other young players at Blackburn. Quite a few of us have been loaned out to get some first-team football under our belt."

Corbett has proved an instant hit with Quakers fans since joining the club at the beginning of March. And while he would no doubt be a welcome permanent addition to the squad, the pacy forward admits even he is uncertain of where his future lies when his contract expires in the summer.

Meanwhile, Corbett admits he was relieved to finally open his account for the club against Bury. "I missed a few against Boston and I had a couple of chances at Scunthorpe so it was about time," he said.

"It was a relief to get off the mark and hopefully I can get a few more before the end of the season. I've only been here a month, but from what I've seen we can beat anyone on our day."

And Corbett will be looking to continue in the same vein for the trip to Southend at the weekend in front of one or two familiar faces.

"I'm from that area so hopefully my Mam and Dad will be going along to the game," said Corbett.

"If we can get another good result down at Southend then that will take more pressure off us and we can enjoy the rest of the season."
