SOCIALITE Tara Palmer-Tomkinson will open the region's largest outlet shopping centre next week.

The 'It' girl and friend of the Royal family will perform the ceremony at Dalton Park, Murton, County Durham, at 11am next Thursday.

She was chosen for her well-publicised love of fashion, as the development features clothing stores, including Adidas and upmarket retailer Joseph, with up to 50 per cent off normal prices.

Following the opening ceremony, at the main entrance, Metro Radio and TFM will broadcast live from the centre, set in 55 acres of parkland on the former colliery spoil heap site.

There will also be fashion shows on a stage every half hour, with live video screenings throughout the malls.

British salsa champions Cuban Groove will put on demonstrations, and shoppers will be able to mingle with celebrity lookalikes, including J-Lo, Madonna, and Posh and Becks.

The day will be rounded off with a live band, which will perform until 9pm, and a fireworks display.

Comprising 75 shops, cafZs and restaurants, a children's play area, a creche, and free parking for 1,200 cars, Dalton Park is predicted to attract shoppers from throughout the region.
