BIRTHDAY boy Lee Armstrong got the surprise of his life when his fiancee delivered a very special present.

For 18-year-old Amanda Longford went into labour and gave birth to their daughter Porschaleigh on the bathroom floor.

The couple had been staying with her mother in Standish Street, Stanley, County Durham, to celebrate Lee's 23rd birthday.

Her mother Sharon Barrett, 45, delivered the 6lb 14oz baby on Saturday morning

Amanda, of Malvern, South Stanley, said: "I couldn't believe how quick it happened. It was over within about 20 minutes and my mum delivered Porschaleigh. She was amazing, and our baby was the perfect birthday present for Lee."

Paramedics arrived minutes after the baby was born, at 9.30am on Saturday, and the midwife followed to give them both a medical check. Both were given a clean bill of health - Amanda did not even have to go to hospital.

Mrs Barrett, who is a mother-of-four and already has two other grandchildren, said: "It all happened so fast. I was delivering the baby, Lee was watching along with my husband Paul, and son Connor.

"I was terrified but I had to do it. It all ran smoothly and everything was fine.

Lee, who is unemployed, said: "What a birthday present. I always planned to be at the birth, but I always thought it would be in hospital.

"One thing is for sure, and that's I'll never forget Porschaleigh's birthday."
