After their exploits in the penalty shoot-out last week to reach the final of the Russell Foster league cup, Shildon returned to league action against Chester Athletic.

In an even game that saw both sides hit the woodwork, Matthew Brown, who was the hero last week by saving two penalties, scored his first goal of the season to give Shildon the lead. He again came to the rescue with a goal line clearance late in the game to ensure a 1-0 victory. Joe Joyce who never stopped working for the team was rewarded with the man of the match award.

Seaham Red Star provided the opposition for the second game of the day. In a game Shildon dominated Thomas Hallimond scored to give them an early lead. It looked as though Shildon would go on to win the game easily but the Seaham defence dug in and along with some poor finishing frustrated the Shildon attack. Hallimond eventually scored a second to calm the Shildon nerves, ensuring that they maintained their 100 per cent record in the Houghton cup.
