A MILITARY museum is passing on the secrets of its success to friends across the North Sea.

Two Norwegians visited the Green Howards Museum in Richmond to pick up tips for their own attraction.

Erland Lkken, the Mayor of Dovre Kommune in Gudbrandsdal, central Norway, and his colleague Egil Ulateig visited the museum because of the Norwegian town's close links with the regiment.

For the last 50 years people have collected German, British and Norwegian militia but items have been kept in storage.

Erland and Egil, with other enthusiasts want to open a museum in a collection of German huts.

Richmond museum curator Roger Chapman said: "We are very proud of our Norwegian links, and we will do everything we can to help Dovre Kommune set up their Museum in Dombs."

In April 1940 the Green Howards faced the German attack near the town of Otta.

Despite German attempts to break through, the Green Howards held out. The regiment later acted as rearguard as their brigade withdrew from Norway.

The German occupation of Norway lasted until May 1945 and Dombs, the main town in Dovre Kommune, was the German divisional HQ, with 10,000 soldiers.
