A POLICE officer has been praised for his work in Ferryhill.
Sergeant Brian O'Connor has been transferred to Newton Aycliffe after two-and-a-half years in Ferryhill.
Sgt O'Connor paid tribute to members of Ferryhill Town Council and described it as "probably being the best working relationship experienced between a council and the local police anywhere".
He said that initiatives led by Ferryhill Town Council, such as the Ferryhill e.cafe and the new youth shelters, were to be commended in helping to reduce crime.
Mayor of Ferryhill, Councillor Ken Campbell, presented Sgt O'Connor with a crystal whisky glass and pen set.
He thanked Sgt O'Connor for his efforts with key officers, including Chris Metcalfe, who have helped produce dramatic reductions in recorded crime in the town.
