SEVERAL Redcar residents have objected to the inclusion of a pub, nightclub, bar, restaurant, bingo hall or casino in plans to regenerate the Coatham Enclosure area of the seafront.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council said the fear of noise associated with licensed premises was a major concern to opponents, but that the idea of Continental-style seafront cafes had support.

SALE FUNDRAISER: A sale of nearly new children's toys and clothing is being held at Eaglesciffe Community Centre, Durham Lane, on Saturday, from noon until 3pm. Proceeds will go to the Butterfield Pre-school Playgroup, which is raising funds to furnish new premises.

EASTER FAIR: Toys, cakes and books will be on offer at an Easter fair on Saturday in Thornaby. The fair is being held at St Andrew's Mission, Cobden Street, from 1pm, with events including a raffle, tombola and decorated Easter egg competition. Admission is 10p.

FIRST MEETING: Redcar Racecourse's first flat racing meeting of the season will be held on Thursday, May 1.
