A gunshot victim told a court he might be left paralysed after he was blasted in the leg during a drinking session.

James Bannon, 49, is still receiving treatment for a wound to his left leg seven months after he was gunned down, allegedly by Robert Fox, 34.

Newcastle Crown Court was told that Mr Fox turned the shotgun on Mr Bannon after he was beaten by him in a fist fight in the Rovers Return pub, in Sunderland, on September 30.

Still supported by crutches, Mr Bannon told the court: "He blasted it at me. He might have said something but I can't remember what."

Mr Bannon told the court that he still attends Dryburn Hospital for weekly treatment to his injuries.

He said: "They said I might be paralysed at the bottom of my leg, it is all numb. I can walk on it but there is nothing there."

Mr Fox, of Harold Square, Hendon, Sunderland, denies attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He says he was in Luton at the time of the shooting.

The trial continues.
