Newton Aycliffe

Once again the Under-I7 boys put on an awesome performance at the NYSD cross-country meeting at Richmond on March 16. Leading the way again was Lewis Moses who finished first with a time of 22.24, Adam Gibson, keeping in touch with the leaders, finished third in 24.21, Adam Harker, getting to grips with cross country running, finished a very credible sixth in 26.19. All their sterling efforts ensured another team win for the Under-17 boys.

In the Under-13 boy's event James Askew improvement continued as he finished 15th in 11.56.

Pat Edwards was the club's only lady representative at the race, and came home in 35th place in a fine time 29.22.

In the Durham Pine North-Eastern Harrier cross country meeting a Prudhoe four Aycliffe runners took on what is probably the toughest cross country course in the area.

Adam Gibson, our only Under-17 runner on the day, came home in eighth place in a superb time of 22.00.

Next the three senior men, Peter Milburn running freely again after injury had a marvellous race to finish in 31.46, Colin Gibson relishing the tough climbs on the course finished in 35.13.

The last of the senior runners the very popular Dave Middleton who battled the six-mile course in 42.21.

Shildon

After their exploits in the penalty shoot-out last week to reach the final of the Russell Foster league cup, Shildon returned to league action against Chester Athletic.

In an even game that saw both sides hit the woodwork, Matthew Brown, who was the hero last week saving two penalties, scored his first goal of the season to give Shildon the lead. He again came to the rescue with a goal line clearance late in the game to ensure a 1-0 victory. Joe Joyce who never stopped working for the team was rewarded with the man-of-the-match award.
