A huge carp haul wiped out the opposition during the midweeker at Carlton Miniott's Woodland Lakes on a day when Skylark and Kestrel outperformed the other match lakes Partridge Curlew and Wagtail.

Map Elton's Alan Sharman enjoyed an unforgettable session on Skylark 31 hammering home 86.4.0.

Alan established a steady rhythm throughout as long pole and pellet up in the water kept in contact with the fish and also brought a common of 6.0.0.

Second place went to Newman Scott's Tony Leeming whose pellet and long pole carp net of 46.12.0 came of Kestrel Lake's peg 20.

The carp went berserk feeding avidly during Saturday's well-attended slot at the Woodlands and the 97 competitors found 50lbs only gained tenth position at the end of the day.

Staged on six of the match lakes red-hot pellet the 'in bait' at present produced the goods and John Chapman of Drennan North West weighed in a level 79.0.0 to literally grab the honours.

Fishing Skylark 12, John collected carp on the long pole his best a mirror going 4.0.0.

For Tony Leeming it was runner up twice in a row on the complex. Tactics wise it was more of the same. Drawn on Partridge 28 Tony had a slightly better stamp of fish with samples to 6.0.0 but at the weigh in fell an agonising 2ozs short on 78.14.0.

Others: D Cooper (Shimano Quaker) 67.15.0; D Smith (Map Elton) 62.4.0; K Fryatt (Elton Tackle) 58.12.0.

At Eden Meadows (formerly Beaumont) an introductory Saturday match went down a storm on this Co Durham fishery and such was the demand for places the event was an instant sell out.

A mixture of commons and mirrors responded to pellet for Team Shimano Quaker's Brian Armstrong fishing tight to the island off Cherry 12. However, highlight came when a big common of 11.0.0 enough to make victory a foregone conclusion interrupted the flow and made up 22.0.0 at the scales.

Also on Cherry Tree, Team Eden's Derek Fox went 6 metres down the middle and 11m to the island on pellet and netted 'pastie' sized carp for 15.5.0 off peg 10. While best weight off Acer Lake of 10.2.0 went to Malcolm Dunlop of Team Shimano Quaker.

The second leg of the York Tackle Spring League on Poole Bridge Farm Wheldrake skimmer bream filled the winner's net to the tune of 13.12.0.

Doug Featherstone of Malton & Norton AC took the pole and chopped worm out to 11 metres and returned fish to 1.4.0 off the old pond on peg two.

Sponsor of the series York Tackle's Rita Bell drawing peg 21 at the opposite end tempted all quality roach to 12ozs on the caster for a 12.7.0 redfin return.

Warmer conditions improved match returns on Thursday at the Oaks Sessay and Billingham Tackle Box's Simon Medd pushed aside the other venue regulars to finish in front of the other two forty plus nets.

Simon on Maple Lake's peg 56 chose pellet for the duration tempting all carp. Taking the pole out to 13 metres carp upto 5.0.0 resulted in a bag of 47.12.0.

Oaks Sunday (65 pegs) Maple Lake: 1 G Pawlett (Oaks) 30.8.0; 2 D Smith (Map Elton) 27.6.0; 3 I Exley (Middy Team Dons) 26.4.0.
