BABY resuscitation courses are being run from a Durham swimming baths.

The special lifesaving courses geared towards saving babies' lives are being run from Durham City Baths.

A free pilot course is to be run for Durham City Council staff who work with babies and toddlers and will teach them how to respond to a situation where babies are drowning or choking or have stopped breathing.

The training will then be available to people who care for babies, whether parents, grandparents, friends or babysitters.

It will be led by lifeguards at the swimming pool, Jonny Gwynne and David Walker, who are trained assessors for the Royal Life Saving Society UK.

Mr Gwynne said: "With a baby you have to be much more lighter-handed and there's a lot of different techniques when a baby is involved, for example when you're resuscitating an adult you use two hands for CPR, but with a baby it's two fingers."

Anyone who would like to attend the Baby Resuscitation Clinic should contact David Walker at Durham City Baths on (0191) 384 3143.
