FORMER football star Niall Quinn has presented young players with awards at their school assembly.
The retired Republic of Ireland and Sunderland player visited Eastbourne Comprehensive School, in Darlington, to give certificates to the year seven girls' and boys' and year eight boys' teams.
He had originally been asked to attend the school's awards ceremony on April 3, but was attending the Republic of Ireland's game against Albania and was unavailable. Instead, he agreed to attend a school assembly.
Acting headteacher Karen Pemberton said: "He very generously agreed and presented medals and a trophy to the girls year seven five-a-side team and certificates to the boys' teams, who are having a tremendous run of success against opposing local school teams."
