A CONTROVERSIAL author and broadcaster will talk about the execution of three Durham Light Infantry soldiers during the First Worl War.

Julian Putkowski will be speaking at the dli, formerly the Durham Light Infantry Museum and Durham Art Gallery, on Saturday.

The talk will focus on William Stones, Peter Goggins and John McDonald, who were shot at dawn, on January 18, 1917.

The men were serving in the 19th Battalion DLI as part of the 35th Bantam Division, made up of men originally considered too short for service.

The executions were sanctioned by Field Marshal Haig following a successful enemy raid on British trenches at King Crater, near the French town of Arras.

The talk starts at 2pm, and tickets cost £3.50, concessions £2.50 and £1.50 for season ticket holders. They are available at the museum.
