A DRIVER has tried to entice an eight-year-old boy into his car as he was leaving his village school at home time.
The man was outside Burnopfield Primary School, near Stanley, as the pupils left for home at about 3.15pm on Thursday of last week.
The man told the boy to get into his car, but the child refused.
The man is described as white, in his thirties, with dark, short hair and a goatee beard.
Police said he had a chubby face and spoke with a local accent.
He was driving a silver car, possibly a Citroen Xsara, with dark windows, a spoiler and spoke wheels.
Anyone with information is asked to telephone officers at Stanley police station on (01207) 232144.
