A SIGN language teacher has taken up a study support residency at a Newton Aycliffe school.
Margaret Bain, who leads the signing and singing group Flexible Fingers, is working with pupils at Greenfield School Community and Arts College each Thursday lunch time.
During the sessions Mrs Bain, a teacher of British Sign Language, shows the children how to communicate speech through signing to their favourite pop songs.
A spokeswoman for the school said: "The sessions are great fun and aim to raise awareness of the needs of others.
"All pupils taking part have also performed to the public recently with more than 100 other young people as part of a town-wide 'signing to song' show."
Group members will be performing in the playhouse marquee in this year's Great Aycliffe Show on June 21 and 22.
