A TEENAGER has died in hospital several days after being in collision with a car while crossing a road.

Byron James Atkinson, 16, from Pindar Road, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, suffered serious injuries in the accident on Thursday. He was crossing Eastway, in the Eastfield area of the town, at 8.15am, when he was in collision with a silver Vauxhall Astra driven by a 37-year-old local man.The teenager was taken to Scarborough General Hospital, where he died from his injuries at the weekend. INDECENT ACT: Two girls aged nine and 12 were left badly shocked when a car driver followed them and committed an act of gross indecency in St Paul's Terrace, Ryehope, Sunderland, at 3.15pm on Sunday. The man is described as being in his 30s, suntanned, with a shaved head, clean shaven and hairy arms. He was wearing a navy blue short-sleeved polo shirt, cream trousers and dirty white trainers. He was driving a two-tone N-reg Rover 214 - cream or dirty white on top and dark, possibly black, at the bottom - with a teddy bear hanging in the window. AROMATHERAPY PLEA: A cancer charity is looking for people to host fundraising aromatherapy parties. The parties can be held in people's homes, workplace, schools, or community centres and 20 per cent of the money made from sales at the party will be donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care. PENSIONER INJURED: A 74-year-old woman was taken to hospital after trying to fight off a handbag snatcher in Hexham Old Road, Ryton, Gateshead, at 4pm on Sunday. A police spokesman said a number of motorists had stopped to help her, while one man tried unsuccessfully to catch the robber. The woman was discharged after treatment to her injuries. VICTIM NAMED: A man killed in a head-on collision between a Mercedes Sprinter and Vauxhall pickup on the County Durham and Northumberland border has been named as Derek Davies, 68, of Fellgate Lodge, Shotley Bridge. Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident, which happened on the B6278, between Snods Edge and Shotley Bridge, at about 1pm on Friday. The 31-year-old Sprinter driver is in a serious condition in Newcastle General Hospital. Anyone with information has been asked to contact (01434) 604111, ext 61474.

POLICE WARNING: Police have warned youths to cease their off-road antics or face losing their bikes. Under the Police Reform Act, youths who scare people by careless use of motorbikes in public places such as parks, fields and even paths risk having their bikes confiscated and crushed. Community beat managers in South Tyneside Area Command have started seizing bikes following a number of complaints.

FASHIONB SHOW: A charity fashion show arranged by one of the region's department stores has raised £1,650 for the NSPCC. The show, organised by Binns, in Darlington, was held at the Redworth Hall Hotel, near Newton Aycliffe.
