Spennymoor assistant manager Jason Ainsley described Tuesday night's win at Workington as "unbelievable."

Moors won 2-1 in Cumbria to go second in the table, and if results go their way, they could be promoted at the weekend.

Ainsley said: "Considering that we were held up in traffic and didn't get there till 7.20, had to play people out of position and went an early goal down, to win like we did was unbelievable.

"We could look back at the game in a fortnight's time, and look at it as the game which won us promotion."

Moors only had 13 players, and at half time, striker Andrew Shaw came off.

"Snapper said that he wasn't getting anywhere, so he said that he would come off and help on the bench," said Ainsley, who was in charge of the team whilst Jamie Pollock is away.

"He was excellent on the bench, and his input was really good. He made quite a few suggestions to help us win the game. Mind you, I didn't hear one properly, and I did something different on the field, and it came off when Danny Brunskill opened up the Workington defence for the second penalty!"

Workington took the lead through Craig Johnston, but Moors scored twice in the second half with two Steve Preen penalties, the second of them just a couple of minutes from the end.

Moors could be even closer to promotion this Saturday, because while they have a home game against Rossendale, leaders Alfreton are at home to fourth placed North Ferriby

Bishop Auckland are Easter Monday's opponents for Moors, and they are looking for a league double over Moors.

"We will have our strongest team out on Monday," said Bishops' boss Brian Honour, who has hinted that he might rest some of his players for tomorrow's trip to Leek Town.

Meanwhile, Honour has had talks about next season with chairman Terry Jackson.

"We had a very encouraging talk about next season's plans," said Honour. "I have already said that I want Bishop Auckland to be in the same position as Spennymoor this time next year."

The local derby is sure to guarantee a big crowd, especially if Moors need to win the game for promotion.

Blyth are deep in trouble still after they lost at home to Hucknall on Tuesday night, but it is Gateshead who are third bottom after they were beaten 3-1 at home by Whitby. Gateshead are three points away from safety, and could be involved in a play off with the fifth placed club in the First Division.
