The weekend's biggest carp bag came off Raker Lakes Wheldrake where there was plenty of action seeing the top trio weighing in over 172lbs of fish.

Lower Wharfe Angling's Dave Geldart set the ball rolling. Drawn on end peg 30 he recorded a cracking 64.12.0 to settle the verdict off Horseshoe's end peg 30.

Dave swapping between the margin and into the corner on the long pole offered cat meat and pulled out 30 carp, the highlight a mirror of 8.12.0.

Then the floating pole at 17 metres proved the key to success for Stuart Holmes of Tight Lines who returned 58.12.0. Fishing off peg 27 corn put him into contact with the carp and another bumper net was in the bag followed by D Sherwood of Anglers Corner 50.6.0.

In the first round of the Shotton Pond Series Eden Meadow's Rob Emery emerged in front netting 11.7.0.

The ex-Newman Scott regular drew opposite the island and tackled his swim on the groundbait feeder and worm locating six carp, a combination of commons and mirrors averaging 2.0.0. Second-placed Colin Setterfield of Shotton replied with four carp all on the corn for 6.13.0.

Strong winds bent poles to the limit during the latest round of the Poppleton Lake Series York and only a few competitors in sheltered spots mastered the conditions.

Armley's Tony Hewson showed his class putting a comprehensive 41.0.0 onto the scales.

Pulling out peg ten Tony worked two lines on the pole down the middle at 9m and across at 14. Double red maggot over loose feed made for all carp including a bonus mirror of 8.0.0.

Pegged on the island filled Mallard Lake the Map Elton sponsored star extended the pole to 16 metres in order to reach the island ledge off peg 13 and alternated meat and corn for all carp including ones up to 7.0.0.

Peter Nixon of Newman Scott also had plenty of bites on Skylark two. Opting for 13m into the open water corn brought carp to 4.0.0 for a second place net of 49.10.0.

Woodland Lakes Sunday - Partridge & Skylark Lakes (70 rods): Result: 1 T Neesam (Elton Tackle) 45.6.0; 2 G Grundy (Yorkshire Tykes) 39.10.0; 3 S Rodgers (Robin Hood) 39.1.0.

Match organiser Mick Herrington tasted victory during Sunday's Oaks Open made even sweeter when he beat carp ace Dean Smith off the next peg catching a level 38.0.0.

Mick of the Oaks on Maple's peg 48 went across on the pole alongside the island at 13m cupping small amounts of corn and pellet. Smaller commons and mirrors readily accepted corn on the hook for four hours but then bites faded.

Just 7ozs adrift came Map Elton's John McGarrell pulling out peg 65. It was also the long pole to the farside but with pellet on the hook encouraging a better stamp of carp to 4.0.0 for 37.9.0.
