Rock band Reef are to headline a music festival in the North-East next month.

The West Country quartet, who have had a Number One hit in the charts and four top 20 singles, will join current chart stars Junior Senior and Indie favourites The Bandits and The Jeevas on the 96.6TFM main stage, at the Middlesbrough Music Live Festival on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26.

They will top a line-up of about 100 acts appearing on eight stages across the town.

"They're a tremendous festival band and they'll end the day perfectly," said Graham Ramsay, whose company, Ten Feet Tall, is booking the acts for the free festival, organised with Middlesbrough Council.

Reef are celebrating their tenth anniversary, and their appearance at Music Live comes at the end of a UK tour. The four members of the group - vocalist Gary Stringer, guitarist Kenwyn House, bassist Jack Bessant and drummer Dominic Greensmith - have toured Australia, Japan, Europe and the US.

"I'm delighted we've got our headliner in place," said Mr Ramsay. "But the hard work isn't over. I've always maintained that Music Live is about a full day's worth of entertainment, not just the big names at the end of the day. And we'll be pulling out all the stops to ensure that the whole event is of the highest quality."
