A DISABLED woman has been refused a refund from a Teesside furniture store after the settee she ordered would not fit through her front door.
Jan Fairbridge, who is confined to a wheelchair, bought the three-seat recliner from Courts Furnishers, in Portrack Lane, Stockton.
Delivery men could not get it through the front door of her home in South Bank, Middlesbrough.
The settee, which cost £736, had to be returned to the store.
When she contacted the shop to ask for a refund she was told they could only swap it for another model.
Mrs Fairbridge said: "What use is another settee from Courts to me? I specifically chose this one because it would be comfortable for a disabled woman.
"If you are not satisfied with a purchase, then you should be able to get your money back.
"I am now paying for a piece of furniture that I don't want."
Simon Coleman, of Courts, said the company expected customers to measure their doors before purchasing furniture.
He said: "We order all the settees in good faith, hoping that our customers have measured up.
"In this instance that does not appear to be the case. However, we do offer a resale package, where people can swap what they have bought."
