ENGLAND'S football captain David Beckham is encouraging pupils in the region to don sunglasses to raise money for charity.
Fellow Manchester United players Ryan Giggs and Roy Keane are also supporting The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association fund-raising drive, which will be collecting money for schools throughout the North.
The association's Shades for a Day will take place on Tuesday, July 15.
Pupils and teachers will be asked to pay £1 to wear their sunglasses for the day, with funds divided equally between their schools and the guide dogs charity.
Last year, nearly 500,000 people in schools, offices, clubs and organisations took part in the event, raising nearly £250,000.
Anyone interested in taking part should log on to www.guidedogs.org.uk or phone (0845) 6006787.
