WHITBY Town Crier Andy Lowe has lost his seat on Scarborough Borough Council after being declared bankrupt.

Mr Lowe was a Conservative member of the authority for Whitby's Mayfield ward and ran a shop selling prints and undertaking desk top publishing and graphic design. The counci;'s chief executive, John Trebble, said that in addition to being declared bankrupt, Mr Lowe had also failed to attend meetings for six months, which automatically precluded him from membership.

ART SHOW: The artistic talent of Catterick Village is on show at an exhibition next month. The Syddall Old School hosts the display between Friday, May 16, and Sunday, May 18. Admission is free.

SOWERBY CONCERT: Sowerby Music's next concert in St Oswald's Church is on Saturday, May 10, at 7.30pm, and features the St Oswald Singers in a choral programme, The English Cathedral - A Great Musical tradition. The production will be conducted by Nicolas Carter, of Ripon, who is director of music at Queen Mary's School, Baldersby Park. Tickets are £7 at the door or £6 in advance from Hambleton Books or White Rose Books, Thirsk.

EPIC RUN: The 62-year-old president of Sowerby WI, Marianne Codling, raised more than £1,200 by completing the London Marathon. The money will go to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the WI.

Duke's pledge: The Duke of Northumberland has agreed to unveil a plaque in Northallerton High Street on the site where the first Duke was born in 1714.

HOTEL SOLD: The 17th-Century Bridge House Hotel at Catterick Bridge, between the racecourse and the Swale, has been bought by the Tadcaster Pub Company in a deal worth £600,000.
