An 11-year-old girl was arrested for possessing drugs following a raid on a house where officers found crack cocaine and £1,000 cash, police said today.

She was allegedly found with a small amount of cannabis as officers swooped on an address in Kingston Street in central Middlesbrough.

A force spokeswoman said: ''The ages of people we are having to arrest in relation to drugs incidents is obviously shocking.

''We will not tolerate it at any age.

''It is so sad she is only a child and has been exposed to drugs at such an age.''

Police arrested a 26-year-old woman and a man aged 25 at the address on suspicion of possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply.

All three have been released on police bail pending forensic tests.

Officers found £1,000 cash and £300 worth of what they believed was crack at the house.

The arrests came as a result of a tip-off from the public.

Sergeant Paul Templeman, of Middlesbrough's drugs unit, said: ''The arrests yesterday are part of our commitment to cracking down on the problem of drugs in the area.''
