A BOGUS gas man left empty-handed when he tried to burgle a Middlesbrough woman's house.
A man claiming to be from British Gas was asked to leave the house in Langridge Crescent, Berwick Hills, when the householders became suspicious.
The woman let him into her home when he said he wanted to read the gas meter, but when she became distracted by her child, she returned to the hall to find the man gone.
She then found him in her kitchen claiming to look for the meter so she asked him to leave. He was then seen to drive off in a small white car, possible a Rover Metro.
The woman then phoned the gas and electricity companies who both informed her they did not have anyone working in that area.
Anyone who knows anything about this man, who called at the woman's house at 12.10pm on Monday, is asked to call PC David Myers on (01642) 303126.
