THE inaugural Guisborough Heritage Day has been hailed a massive success.
Organisers of last weekend's event say more than 1000 people visited the priory, another 1000 took part in events at Sunnyfield House and hundreds attended Guisborough Museum.
Now organisers from numerous local groups are to consider holding the event again next year.
The event was co-ordinated by the Gisborough Priory Project who received funding from the Guisborough Market Town Initiative.
Programme manager at the GMTI Carol Hudson said: "It went brilliantly. Everything was busy all the time but it was comfortable. There was plenty for the children to do which was also great.
"Everyone who put so much hard work into this deserves huge amounts of praise."
At Sunnyfield House there were numerous displays and activities while at Gisborough Priory children had the chance to try clay modelling and decorate tiles. St Nicholas Church and Guisborough Museum were open to visitors and entry to Gisborough Priory was free.
There were also guided walks in which walkers learnt about the history and geology of the area, while Guisborough Cricket Club held its first match of the season. The Zetland Masonic Hall in Chaloner Street also opened its doors to visitors.
