A NEW block housing 200 pension service staff was officially opened yesterday.
Sir Richard Mottram, the head of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), was at Tyne View Park, in Benton, Newcastle, to open the London Pension Centre.
Eventually 600 staff will be based at the centre, handling pensions from the London area along with the Pensions Credit, which will be introduced in October.
After meeting staff and managers, Sir Richard, who is the DWP's Permanent Secretary, unveiled a plaque to commemorate his visit.
He said: "I am delighted to be in the North-East to visit our staff at Tyne View Park and open this new facility.
"The Newcastle Pensions Centres are vital to the work of the Pension Service.
"They are excellent examples of how staff throughout DWP are working hard to produce the most modern, efficient and professional service we can for all our customers."
Tyne View Park is also the home of three other Pension Centres, which play a vital part in the organisation of the Pension Service. Pension Payments, Pension Forecasting, Tele-claims and International Pension Claims and Payments are all administered from Tyneside.
