SHEEP SHOW: More than £2,500 is prize money is on offer at the 18th annual Eastgate Sheep Show to be held on Saturday, May 31.

There are classes for Swaledales, Blue-faced Leicesters and North of England mule sheep. Entries close on Saturday, May 24. The show will also feature a bonny dogs show and free entertainment for children. For details, call Paul Collinson on (01388) 517374.

SALE DATE: The Weardale Agricultural Society will have a stall at a car boot sale it is staging at St John's Chapel recreation field on Monday, May 26, from 9am. Cars will cost £5 and vans £7.50, with the proceeds going to society funds. A craft fair and coffee morning will be held by the society on the same day in the town hall from 10am.

BINGO NIGHT: A bingo and quiz night is being held at Westgate Village Hall tonight at 7pm. Bingo tickets will cost £1 a book and the entry fee for the quiz is £2 with a maximum of four people per team.

HELPING OUT: A coffee morning, raffle and cake stall is being held by Myra Hughes at 3 Hood Street, St John's Chapel, at 10.30am next Friday, to help raise funds for the village's Methodist chapel.

TRUSTEE APPEAL: New trustees are invited to attend the annual meeting at the Barrington Hall, St John's Chapel, on Monday, May 12, at 2pm. All residents of Upper Weardale are entitled to vote at the meeting.

ON MENU: Soup and sweet will be served at the Barrington Hall, St John's Chapel, on Monday, May 12, from noon to 1.30pm. Admission is £3 in aid of church funds.
