ONE of Yorkshire's oldest residents has celebrated her 105th birthday.
Retired secretary Vera Yorke can still remember the Pitman's shorthand outlines she used.
Mrs Yorke, who lives at the Rockingham House nursing home in Malton, said: "I remember once writing a letter for my boss when I misread my shorthand and wrote 'loving' instead of 'living' in a very important letter, which caused a lot of embarrassment."
She sang in several choirs in her home city of Liverpool, where her husband Reginald was a sculptor at the Anglican Cathedral. She was a member of the British Musical Society and regularly performed at Liverpool's Central Hall.
