A SIX-YEAR project to regenerate a town park for children has been completed.
Residents in the Hilda Park area of South Pelaw, near Chester-le-Street, were invited to celebrate the success of the project to revitalise the playing field and create a children's play area.
The project was initiated in 1996 after parents expressed concern about the deterioration in the play provision at the site, which is near to Elm Way and Lilac Grove.
The celebrations last weekend included a five-a-side football tournament, arts and crafts sessions and face painting
