A THREE-storey block of luxury flats is being proposed on the site of an old tyre depot in Coniscliffe Road, Darlington.
Suma Homes has submitted a planning application to demolish the depot and build 24 apartments close to the town centre.
A spokesman for Darlington Borough Council said: "This is a conservation area and planners will be looking carefully at the design and how they fit in with the other properties in Coniscliffe Road."
The new development would be close to the 30 apartments built on the site of the now demolished Chesterfield House.
There was such a demand there that Darlington Homes, the developers, started taking sealed bids for the first 15 flats before they were even off the drawing board.
They ranged in price between £104,950 and £174,950 and are due to be occupied this summer.
