Released midfielder Paul Campbell will bid his own personal farewell to Feethams tomorrow - and more significantly Darlington Football Club.

The 23-year-old was told on Tuesday that the club would not be taking up its one-year option on him. And the Middlesbrough-born player will be in the squad for one last time when Quakers entertain Leyton Orient tomorrow.

Campbell has struggled to hold down a regular place this season and has made just four starts for Mick Tait's side.

"Mick broke the news to me at the training ground and obviously it came as a huge disappointment," said Campbell.

"I've had 12 happy years at the club and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd like to wish the fans and the club all the success in the future.

"I have been there a long time so its going to be very hard to move on."

Campbell joined the club at the age of just 11, where he worked his way through the ranks before making his senior debut seven years later at home to Shrewsbury.

He went on to make 73 appearances for Quakers, scoring eight goals including a memorable diving header which helped secure a shock 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest in the League Cup two seasons ago.

However, Campbell has found first-team opportunities limited this season and now he is left with the task of finding a new club.

"My name has been circulated to other clubs so we'll just have to wait and see what happens," said Campbell. "All I can do is keep myself fit and see what comes along.

"I have to be positive and hopefully I will find another club."
