CONFIDENT Kevin Henderson senses a steely determination within Hartlepool United camp.

Pool headed off for Rushden yesterday ahead of tomorrow's title decider at Nene Park. And Henderson admitted: "It's game on for us now - we know what we want and we are confident.

"We can only go to Rushden and win, it's as simple as that.

"There's no pressure, we are up and promoted, all we can do now is win the title - what a nice position to be in.''

Henderson was haunted by his horror miss at Scunthorpe almost two weeks ago, a chance which caused a few uneasy nights for the title-chasing Pool striker.

He was booed by some supporters on Easter Monday, but a goal to round off last weekend's 3-0 win over Shrewsbury put that miss to bed. And now, with the Division Three title to go for, the striker is raring to go.

"It was said in the car on the way down to the game that I was going to score and when I arrived I found out I wasn't playing,'' he said.

"So then all you can do is hope you get on and hope you get a chance - I did and thank God for that. What happened at Scunthorpe has gone now and all I have now is nice thoughts in the back of my mind. Third Division champions - it sounds nice doesn't it? That's what we all want.''

Henderson is one of three strikers pressing for a start tomorrow. Eifion Williams took a knock last week, but looks like being passed fit, and Gordon Watson was back in the side against Shrewsbury.

Henderson was dropped from the starting line-up last week, but came off the bench to score and Newell admitted.

"I was delighted for him last week. He got a standing ovation three weeks back and then some people booed him on Easter Monday. He's a strong character. I told him I was leaving him out last weekend, not because he couldn't handle it, but because the fans couldn't handle it.

"We didn't want a bad atmosphere from the off, because that could affect everyone.

"And if people had started then it could have turned uneasy. In the end he came on and scored and that was a great feeling for him. He deserved it.''

Darrell Clarke is likely to stay in his preferred central role tomorrow after an impressive display against Kevin Ratcliffe's now-relegated side and Henderson admitted: "He has always said he prefers it in the middle and I thought he looked very much at home there.

"He never stopped running all day and got on with the job well.''
