CAMPAIGNERS fighting two bids for a waste transfer station have called a public meeting.
Waste management company Yorwaste, of Northallerton, said it needed a temporary base in the area to deal with household rubbish from the northern end of the county.
When a bid to use an industrial unit in Bridge Road, in Brompton-on-Swale, was rejected by Richmondshire District Council, the company switched its attention to an equally controversial location at the former Scorton landfill site nearby.
However, on Monday, it confirmed it intends to appeal against Richmondshire District Council's decision.
Neighbours met yesterday morning and announced a public debate to be held at the Brompton-on-Swale Sports Club, on Wednesday, at 7pm.
"This time, the meeting won't decide where we stand on this or that,'' said spokeswoman Philippa Cooper. "What we need to decide is what type of appeal we should press for, whether we think the Yorwaste proposals can be dealt with by letter or if it the appeal should go to a full public inquiry."
