A SCHOOL where more than half its pupils are taught in temporary accomodation, is going ahead with a bid to secure a new building.

Durham North MP Kevan Jones visited St Cuthbert's RC Primary School, in Ropery Lane, Chester-le-Street, on Friday to see the work the school was doing to raise funds for a building.

The school consists of four temporary classrooms and the main building dates back to 1926.

A new building would cost about £2.5m, ten per cent of which would have to be met by the school.

The primary began fundraising in September.

Headteacher Sean Brown said: "We have got more children being taught outside the main school than inside.

"It is like Legoland with bits of pieces here and there.

"We know there is obviously limited money for this sort of thing, the resources cannot provide everything for everyone, but we are just trying to get people on board in support of our cause, like Kevan Jones."

Mr Jones said: "I will be putting my support behind getting the investment that is needed."
