Substitute Kevin Devine put Horden back into the Albany Northern League First Division after an absence of over a decade with a 2-0 home win over Hebburn on Saturday.

Devine came on and scored twice in the last half hour to clinch a notable double for Horden, as they have also won the Durham Challenge Cup.

Manager Tommy Garside said: "We were a little worried that while the score remained 0-0, there was always the possibility that a daft mistake could cost us.

"But when Kevin came on and scored, it took the pressure off.

"Our aim now is now not only to stay up, but try and progress, just like Brandon have done."

Horden had most of the possession, but didn't break through until Devine picked the ball up on the right, beat two defenders, and then scored with a low left foot shot.

And he made certain when he picked up a through ball and beat the Hebburn keeper near the end.

Thornaby grabbed the last promotion place with a nail biting 1-0 home win over champions Penrith.

Jamie Clarke scored their winner with a penalty after 58 minutes for a foul on Chris Reeve, then they had to endure a nervous last half hour.

Thornaby denied Seaham, who won their last game at Northallerton 1-0, thanks to a first half Paul Taylor goal from a corner. Seaham also missed a penalty through Colin Nesbitt.

In the First Division, runners up Bedlington won 2-1 at relegated Newcastle Blue Star, thanks to a late winner by John Milner, who took his tally for the season in the league to 35.

Roy Allen opened the scoring for Bedlington with his 29th of the season, with Danny Olesuga equalising.

Whitley Bay completed their fixtures with a 2-0 home win over Morpeth, with goals from Lee Scroggins and a Lee Ludlow penalty.

Feethams stages the League Cup final this morning (11am) between Shildon and Billingahm Synthonia.

Shildon reached the final last season, only to lose to Durham City, and they have lost to Synners three times this season, twice in the league, and again in the Durham Challenge Cup.

Manager Ray Gowan said: "We're very much the underdogs, because we've only come close once to beating them this season." Former Darlington players Lee Ellison and Danny Key are included in the Shildon squad while Synners include former Quakers David Wells and Neil Radigan.

However, Synners will be without suspended striker Tony Woods.
