Norton enjoyed a good win against Blaydon when club chairman when Keith Symington top scored with 85 and Armstrong contributed an unbeaten 64 to a total of 216 for three.

Replying Blaydon were all out for 168 of which Ian Richardson contributed 44 and Townes 31, while for Norton Chapman captured four wickets for 19 runs.

Stockton lost by six wickets to Tynemouth. The Teessiders posted 158 for nine with Oliver making 48 and for Tynemouth, Phillips claimed three wickets for just nine runs.

In response Tynemouth were well served by Debnam (71), Perry with an unbeaten 31 and Candlish (30).

Sunderland defeated Gateshead Fell by two wickets following a high scoring game. Faced with a target of 195 the Ashbrooke team was indebted to Stevenson for his half century while for the Fell, Hirst was the pick of the bowlers with figures of three for 60.

Ronnie Boyd took four for 54 in the Sunderland attack and for Gateshead, Fell Attrill (66), Donkin (41) and Lockey (33) scored most of the runs.

After compiling 237 for eight South Northumberland bowled out Newcastle for 124. Yaqoob captured five wickets for 23 runs in the South North attack, while the innings produced three players making big scores. Tomlinson (55), Corby (48) and Harbottle with 36 were all in good form, while for Newcastle, Keith Porter took six of the eight wickets to go down for 44 runs.

David Wilkinson (39) and Carl Miller (35) top performed for Philadelphia who were all out for 135 as Harbour claimed five wickets for a miserly eight runs. Benwell Hill won losing three wickets when Northumberland's captain, Phil Nicholson, who was eligible to play in the third team cup competition since he did not turn out on Saturday, showed his skills making 59 and for Phili, Shaun Smith, another regular first teamer who was absent on Saturday, returned figures of four for 25.
