TWO people were taken to hospital after a two-car collison in Durham Lane, Eaglescliffe, Teesside.

They were the driver of a Peugeot car which overturned, but he managed to scramble free, and a woman passenger who had been travelling in a taxi. They suffered minor injuries. Fire crews cleaned the roadway of petrol, which had escaped as a result of the impact during the accident, which took place on Sunday night.

OPEN DAY: Cleveland College of Art and Design is hosting an open day on Saturday, May 17, at its Church Square campus in Hartlepool, and its Green Lane campus in Middlesbrough. The event, from 10am to 2pm, will give school-leavers interested in pursuing a career in art and design the chance to view the studio and facilities.

PEDESTRIAN NAMED: A man killed in a collision at 1am last Sunday has been identified as Neil Graham, 33, from Chester-le-Street. He had been walking along the A168 Thirsk to Northallerton Road, about one mile south of Northallerton, when he was in the accident, which involved a Ford Mondeo.

CHILD RESCUED: Firefighters were called to a house in Chester Road, Sunderland, yesterday afternoon to free a four-year-old girl with her head trapped between two spindles of a staircase banister. They freed her and she was distressed but unhurt.

MILL FIRE: Firefighters extinguished a blaze which started on a conveyor belt when the motor burned out at the Corus Redcar works. A spokesman said no one was injured and production was unaffected by the incident, which took place on Sunday at 11.30pm.
