Police have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses to a fatal road accident on the A168, Thirsk to Northallerton road, in the early hours of Sunday.

Neil Graham was walking on the road when he was in collision with a Ford Mondeo. He died from his injuries. Anyone with information is asked to call (01723) 509555.

CAFE PLAN: A group trying to bring the railway back to Leyburn has applied to Richmondshire District Council for permission to site a railway carriage at the station in Harmby Road, which can be used as a cafe. It also wants to convert the former weigh house into a shop and to alter the layout of the car park.

POOL BURGLED: Police are looking for burglars who broke into Richmond Swimming Pool between Sunday night and Monday morning. Although nothing was stolen, the intruders caused damage inside the building. Witnesses, or anyone with information, are asked to contact Richmond police, on (01609) 789212, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

SHOP THEFT: Valuable antique jewellery has been stolen from a shop in Leyburn Market Place. The brooches, worth an estimated £1,000, were taken on Monday afternoon. Anyone who may be offered the items, or who has information about the theft, is asked to contact the police.

GARDENS OPEN: The gardens at Harlsey Hall will be open to the public this weekend. Admission costs £3 for adults and 50p for accompanied children, with proceeds going to the British Red Cross.

HOSPICE BOOST: The Richmond Group for St Teresa's Hospice has raised £10,600 during the past year. The money will be invested in services at the hospice in Darlington.
