CHESTER-le-Street Leisure Centre is currently one of the top 100 UK Swimming Pools in the Sharron Davies Mile Swim Challenge.
The council-run leisure centre and pool is among 100 pools in the country with the highest number of participants registered to swim at their centre in the forthcoming contest.
The swim challenge will take place between May 11 and May 25, when swimmers will swim a mile either individually or part of a team, in one go or over two weeks. The challenge is open to swimmers of all ages and abilities and aims to encourage people to take to the water and find out how regular swimming can help health and fitness. It will also raise money for ChildLine.

The top individual fundraiser in the challenge will win a week-long holiday for two at the five-star Marriott Golf Resort and Spa in Mallorca.
