Durham Senior League Under-18s: Marsden enjoyed a ten-wicket victory visiting Hetton Lyons who managed only 75 for five as Martin Quinn claimed three for 22.

Gregg Arundel led Marsden's reply finishing unbeaten on 42 and his opening partner Andrew Dougherty with 25 not out.

Eppleton had seven wickets to spare on their visit to South Hetton. David Lowther was their match winner with the bat as he ended unbeaten on 25 out of a total of 54 for three. Batting first, South Hetton ended on 53 for five including 22 by Paul Davidson while for Eppleton Wilson claimed three for the five wickets to fall for just 12 runs.

Saiket Sarkar hit a fine unbeaten 58 when South Shields defeated Durham City by nine wickets. Ellis with an unbeaten 39 and Whalley (24 no) scored most of the runs for Durham.

Stuart Ferguson was 87 not out when Sunderland reached the formidable total of 135 for two against Chester-le-Street at Ashbrooke.

Despite John Coxon also batting well contributing 72 not out, The Cestrians ended on only 115 for one leaving some Sunderland winners by 19 runs.

Runs were less plentiful at Whitburn where Horden were all out for 48. Dave Race picked up three wickets for just one run in three overs and Adam Lock had three for 13 from the six economical overs he sent down. Whitburn went on to win by seven wickets ending on 49 for three.

Foster (58) was the principal run-maker in the Gateshead Fell total of 116 for two at Philadelphia who responded with 88 for two as Luke Anderson continues his good start to the season scoring 53 not out.

There was no play in the game between Boldon and Burnmoor.

Fosters Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League

Under-18s

Naveed Ahmed (42 no) and Aaron Leathley (32) were both in good form leading Annfield Plain to a match winning 100 for one in the home game with Swalwell. Chris Robinson contributed an unbeaten 18 for the Plain and replying Swalwell were restricted to 73 for five which included 25 by Neaven. Robinson also had a good night with the ball for the Plain claiming two for just eight in five overs.

Consett overtook the Blaydon total of 102 for three with seven wickets in tact mainly as a result of the efforts of Chris Holliday (35), Shaun Chilton (20) and Stephen Marshall (20).

Earlier Johnson with 43 and Marsh (31) led Blaydon to a useful 102 for three.

Davey carried his bat for 42 and Ian Steward returned two for 18 as Burnopfield totalled 89 for three at Lanchester who won by seven wickets. Gregg Halliday was 39 not out, Kevin Dixon scored 22 and Ian Steward 20.

Chris Nixon was Ryton's match-winner with the bat in the home game with Chopwell. When his team needed 75 to win, he hit a couple of fours scoring 34 out of a total of 76 for two. When Chopwell made first use of the wicket their innings ended on 74 for nine which included 31 by Peter Wilkinson with five boundaries, both Chris Nixon and Philip Bates took four wickets for Ryton.

Stephen Smith hit one six and six boundaries in 48 and David Bolan had a six and three fours contributing 33 not out to the Lintz total of 109 for one against Shotley Bridge. Mark Charlton had a good night with the bat for the Bridge recording six boundaries in 37 out of his side's total of 108 for three.

Andrew Dixon won the match for Sacriston when they replied to the Crookhall total of 79. Nine wickets went down but Dixon stayed firm hitting seven boundaries in an unbeaten 51.

Earlier both Ian Nelson (4-35) and Martin Hubber (3-6) bowled well for Sacriston as Crookhall were sent back for 79.

Andrew Britton (30), led Greenside to 97 for nine at Whickham for whom Adam Ainley claimed five for 12 runs in five overs. Whickham won with five wickets left.

Federation Special Durham Senior League Under-15s

Durham City had nine runs in hand when they visited South Shields. Parnaby top scored with 19 as City struggled to 75 for six with James Gill taking two for 18 from five overs and Ben Empleton two for seven from the one over he sent down in the Shields attack.

When the home side replied they found run making even more difficult and totalled only 66 for seven as Durham City's Howson claimed three for 22 and Finch two for 12, the two bowlers each sending down five overs. Chris Wilson top scored for Shields with 13.

Chester-le-Street batsmen found run making a lot easier at Sunderland where they posted 107 for six which included 25 by Smith and 23 from Shurben. Although R Smith scored 21 in Simmons reply a total of only 75 for seven was achieved leaving the Cestrians winners by 32 runs.

Burnmoor had the better of Boldon by seven wickets. Faced with a target of 58 they were indebted to Anderson who carried his bat for 31 while, when Boldon batted first and totalled 57 for six, Burnmoor's Holding claimed two of the six wickets for only six runs.

Lyons had 50 runs in hand of Marsden when the hosts replied with 49 for one to the Lyons' total of 99 for three which included an unbeaten innings of 49 by Matthew Cane. Michael Walker added 26 to the score.

At Philadelphia, Luke Anderson carried his bat for 59 and Jonathan Loach was 37 not out as a total of 130 for one was posted. Thomas Raine added 33 before Gateshead Fell were pegged to 37 for six.

Borthwick with four for 12 and Hughes who claimed three for nine bowled out South Hetton for just 51 and Eppleton went on to win by nine wickets as man of the match Borthwick ended undefeated on 209 and Anderson contributed an unbeaten 22.

Paul Leonard rattled up a fine 64 not out and Chris Gorge had 23 not out in the Felling total of 117 for one at home to Seaham Harbour who were 84 for nine when time was called. Burdess led the way for Seaham scoring 24 but when Michael Louther captured four for 15 and Robin Gelder had three for 15 Seaham finished well short of their target.

George Mann Cup

The competition starts its 75th year next week with matches being played at Wolsingham School and Community College on the Flicx Pitch, kindly donated by the Durham Cricket Board in conjunction with Nat. West, the Cricket Foundation and the Lottery Fund.

The teams involved will play off in a league format to qualify for the semi-final knock-out stages, where the winners will receive the 1928 George Mann Cup and the man-of-the-match in the final will receive the Alan Mann Memorial Club.

The fixtures for the first week are: Monday, May 12 Wolsingham Club v Wolsingham Mill Race; Tuesday, 13 May Wolsingham Teachers v Stanhope Grey Bull; Wednesday 14 May Eastgate Cross Keys v Wolsingham All Stars; Thursday 15 May Weardale Steel v Wolsingham School and Community College Sixth Form. The final is planned for Sunday, 13 July at 2pm.

Mrs Nancy Mann, the widow of Alan Mann, will present the trophies immediately after the match.

Fosters Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League

Under-15s

The weather played havoc with the opening night's programme but Burnopfield and Blaydon managed to stage their fixtures.

Burnopfield hosted Swalwell who in 20 overs produced 69 for seven with Richard Dowling (28) and Richard Grand (27) scoring most of the runs.

Marcus Peart had figures of two for 11 and both Stephen Allan and Matthew Young returned two for 16 in the home attack.

When Burnopfield replied, Peart struck six boundaries in 30 and Allan had four fours making 20 as victory was secured for the loss of just two wickets in 10-2 overs.

Blaydon also enjoyed victory in their home game with Whickham. Set a target of 71, they lost six wickets and were grateful to James Carr for his unbeaten 29 which included five boundaries. Batting first, Whickham ended on 70 for two from 20 overs with Stewart scoring 28 and J Bowman 25
