DEVELOPERS working on an office block in Darlington has been given permission to build a third £1.5m building, it was announced last night.

The Hopetown Park development opened its second phase of building with the launch of Studio 2.

The ceremony was accompanied by the news that planning permission had been granted for a third studio on site, which will potentially provide 16,325sq ft of office space and will be designed by architects Ryder, of Newcastle.

The second phase of the redevelopment of the former Whessoe International site was opened by Barry Keel, chief executive of Darlington Borough Council, on Friday.

London investment and development company Gort is responsible for the second development, which - with its two-storey main studio space and three-storey tower - offers 14,300sq ft of office space.

Neighbouring Studio 1 was let to the National Care Standards Commission last year.

Henry Gwyn-Jones, managing director of Gort, said: "The launch of Studio 2 marks a key stage in our redevelopment of Hopetown Park and we are keen to show our continuing commitment to the area.
