Spennymoor Town Council will hold its annual meeting at the town hall on Tuesday at 6.45pm.

A town mayor and deputy mayor will be elected and retiring mayor Councillor Ross Hawkes will present his charity appeal proceeds to his nominated charities Spennymoor Health Centre, for the minor surgery unit, and the National Meningitis Trust.

ELECTED COMMITTEE: Willington Community Partnership held its annual meeting on May 13 and elected a new executive committee. Chairman of the committee is Councillor Brian Myers MBE, vice-chairman is Joe Buckham, secretary Christina Jackson and treasurer Simon Tasker. The rest of the committee is Beverley McMahon, Jennifer Tasker, Bill Tait, Richard Kelly and Damien Caisley. Councillor Margaret Pinkney was co-opted with Liz Charles and Mary Tribe as advisors.

DANCE CLASS: Parkside Community Association hosts tap, ballet and disco dancing classes at Parkside Comprehensive School, Willington, on Mondays from 4.30pm to 7.30pm. For details of classes call (01388) 604476.

PUBLIC INQUIRY: A public inquiry is being held to determine whether an amusement arcade can open in Darlington town centre. The Noble Organisation wants to turn a shop and offices in Northgate in the town into an amusement arcade and tanning centre. A decision was not made on the planning application within the eight-weeks time limit so a public inquiry will now be held. The inquiry will start on June 24 at 10am at Darlington Town Hall.

CHURCH SERVICE: A service of thanksgiving for older people will be held in Neville Parade Methodist Church, Newton Aycliffe, on Sunday, May 25 at 6.30pm. FLOWER SHOW: The Darlington Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society is holding a meeting on June 3. John Parkinson will be talking about dahlias. The meeting will be held at ASE Club, Northgate in Darlington from 7.30pm.

COFFEE INVITE: A coffee morning is held in Sadberge village hall today, from 10am to noon. There will be a raffle, cake and book stalls.
