A DARLINGTON bridge club is inviting new members to pitch their wits at the game - just weeks after it held an international bridge competition.

Expert bridge players, or those who just want to learn about the game, can sample it at St George's Bridge Centre.

The centre held an international bridge competition earlier this month, when an England team, represented by players from the North-East Bridge Association, and officials from the English Bridge Union, played a friendly match against three teams from Sweden.

After an intensive two days of competition, the English team beat Sweden by almost 100 points.

Malcolm Oliver, director at St George's bridge centre, said: "It was a fantastic weekend, enjoyed by both those who participated and those who came along to spectate and give their support to the competing teams.

"We are finding that bridge is appealing to a much younger audience than some years ago and anyone who is interested to come along to the Bridge Centre on Whessoe Road and play against any of our members or learn about the game, is more than welcome."
