A WALK which will look at alternative ways of making use of farm land is to be held in Sedgefield.
The event, sponsored by Sedgefield Borough Council, will take place at West Farm, Garmondsway, with the permission of farmer Guy Rutter, next Thursday, at 6pm.
The farm is in the Countryside Stewardship Scheme and is the first in the area to implement new arable options.
The walk will look at the arable option measures and discuss the pros and cons of implementing them and the increase of biodiversity on the farm.
Options for discussion will include arable field margins, over-wintered stubbles followed by summer fallow, over-wintered stubbles followed by a low input cereal, conservation headlands and a wildlife mix.
The speakers will include Jonathan Elmer from Sedgefield Borough Council, Rachel Webster and Marian Wilby, of the Tyne Tees Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group, and John O'Reilly, from the Government's Rural Development Service. Anyone is welcome to take part.
