Ian Stidwell, from Brandon, collected free food worth nearly £700 when he won a trolley dash around the Asda store in Spennymoor, in a charity competition run by the town's Rotary Club.

Money raised through the event has been shared between Care of the Aged, Spennymoor Town Band, MacMillan Cancer Care and the Catherine Readshaw Bone Marrow Transplant Appeal.

HOSPICE HELP: Easter celebrations in Darlington town centre raised £165 for St Teresa's hospice. The money was raised at a series of events in the town centre and at the Queen Street and Cornmill shopping centres.

QUIZ WINNERS: The first Darlington inter-schools quiz competition for pupils in years seven, eight and nine has been held. Teams from Eastbourne, Haughton, Carmel, Longfield, Hurworth, Hummersknott and Branksome schools took part, with Carmel Technology College winning overall. A trophy was presented by Darlington Borough Council's deputy education director, David Walker.

PRIZES NEEDED: The Friends of Ingleton Primary School, near Darlington, are looking for prizes for the raffle at their summer fair in June.
